On the same day in 1989, forty-three babies were born inexplicably, and the women who became random mothers had no previous signs of pregnancy and no connection.

Seven of the children were adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreaves, who founded the Umbrella Academy and raised his own "children" to save the world.

But things didn't go according to plan. During their boyhood, the family split and the team disbanded.

Today, the six surviving members are in their thirties and have been reunited over the news of Hargreaves' death. Luthor, Diego, Alison, Klaus, Vanya and Five work together to solve the mystery of their father's mysterious death.

But with different personalities and abilities, the estranged family is once again on the verge of breaking up, not to mention the threat of doomsday.
